JP Eats Food Blog. Welcome to my food (and wine) blog. I am very lucky to enjoy good food and wine pretty frequently. I also spend a good deal of time learning and experimenting with both. The point of this blog is to share some of that with you as well as help me remember foods, wines, and little bits and pieces of information I pick up along the way. I rarely take pictures in nice restaurants, so most of what you see here comes from my kitchen, my friends' kitchens, or various casual and local hot spots. You can hit the archive, or never miss a post with rss.

The Big Gay Ice Cream Shop opened it’s doors for the first time on Saturday. I was out of town for the grand opening, but I did manage to make it back in time for day two. The people are so nice, the space is great (fabulous, even), and it’s the same fun and delicious ice cream that the truck has been serving (with a few extra treats), so what’s not to like? There will be a line for a while, but seriously, go on down and get yourself a Salty Pimp.

Sugar rush! Mexican Coca-Cola float from Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. Everyone knows that Mexican Coke uses real cane sugar and is far superior to our corn syrup based product, right? Partially inspired by a bizarre blog, facebook, and twitter exchange between Kenji of Serious Eats and David Chang over the pricing of Mexican Coke, BGICT brought Mexican Coke floats back to the menu. It was a good move.
Enjoying this treat this afternoon seemed like a good move for me as well, until I had dinner at Babbo tonight and found Maple Mascarpone Cheesecake back on the menu. In the end, it was a great day of indulgence, but I’m a little queasy after consuming a week’s worth of sugar in an eight hour span.

The Salty Pimp from Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. I’m very disappointed in this iPhone photo, but not with my first Salty Pimp of the year. When I was little, I loved the dip cones that came from the one “fancy” soft serve place in my town, but I honestly don’t think I have had one from the time I was about 12 until last year when I first tried the Salty Pimp. It’s pretty much the same concept, but… pimped out. I apologize for that. Anyway, if you don’t know, it’s your basic soft serve vanilla carefully laced with dulce de leche, sprinkled with sea salt, and finished with a nice dip in chocolate, and it’s delicious. Plus the place is run by the nicest people and is a lot of fun.
Also— I heard today that BGICT will be on The Best Thing I Ever Ate this summer on Food Network, so the lines are about to get even longer.
